Feast of St Peter and Paul
Most of the world celebrates the day of each person's name, calling it Name Day, Italians don't celebrate, they just have Saint Giuseppe,Saint Paul, Saint Peter...and all other Saints, so every person is Saint, not bad? There are many celebration during summer time in Rome and Italy in general, but there is one day that is celebrated only in Rome and Vatican, the Feast of St Peter and Paul .
So here is a little information, to understand who are those two Saints. Peter and Paul were two greatest leaders of the early Church, both of them have individual days to remember them but June 29th is the day we remember them together as they both died martyrs in Rome during the time when Christians we persecuted for their beliefs.
They guided the church right after the death of Jesus, they last days weren’t that pleasant, both died as martyrs for the faith in Rome, back in the early 60's. Peter was crucified upside down in the courtyard to the left of St. Peter’s Basilica and Paul was beheaded between Rome and the sea, in a place now called Tre Fontane, the three fountains, the three places where Paul's head bounced after being beheaded.
Peter is important because he was the first Pope and kept the church united which was growing very rapidly in the years following Pentecost. It is because of Paul that we are now in the Church. So both very important persons. So let's celebrate it!
