Amsterdam is known as the Venice of the North, due to its beautiful canals that cross the city, its impressive architecture and its 1,500 bridges. Amsterdam offers something for every traveller's taste: from culture and history, to serious partying, or just the relaxing charm of this old European city. The city has a history of non-conformism, tolerance and progressivism...all of which come together in its liberal policies concerning cannabis and prostitution.

Amsterdam is surprising with its parks and green spaces. The Museumplein is a great spot for a pic-nic doand n't miss the Hortus Botanicus, which has been spreading exotic plants since 1638! Museums in Amsterdam are among the main tourist attractions. Among the major Amsterdam's Museums are the Rijksmuseum (one of the biggest and most interesting art museums in the world), which has an incomparable collection of paintings and objects of material culture, classic photographies and prints.

The Van Gogh Museum,where you can admire the vivid masterpieces of a tortured genius, exhibits more than 200 of the artist's paintings. The Anne Frank House is where Anne Frank, only 15 years old at the moment of her death in the German concentration camp Bergen-Belsen, wrote her famous diary. You can visit the tiny hiding rooms of the annex as well as an original of the diary and an exhibition about the Second World War.

Amsterdam has over fifty museums, which attract two million visitors every year! A trip to Amsterdam is not complete without a boat cruise on Amsterdam's canals. A canal tour can be both fascinating and relaxing by day and enchanting and romantic by night when everything is illuminated.

The Rembrandtplein square is crowded with restaurants, cafes pubs and hotels. It is a popular centre for nightlife, with traditional Dutch pubs playing real Dutch music. The Leidse-square is one of Amsterdam's most popular centres for nightlife. Restaurants, clubs, coffeeshops,cinemas and theatres are surrounding the vibrant and colourful Leidseplein area.
