Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow
There is probably no other culture institution which stands more for Russian art and Russian theatre, Russian opera and ballet than the famous Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. It's been always a symbol of Russia itself.
It's very beginning goes back till 1776 and it was founded by Empress Catherine II. Now after a long time of restauration (Which costs more than one billion Euro) it reopened in octobre 2011 and is one of the very attractions of the City of Moscow. It’s a must for every Tourist!
The "theatre of theatres" or "crown jewel of Russian arts" is an architectonic eye catcher as well. The Italian architect Alberto Camillo Cavos was designing the interior in the 19th century and most of it remained till nowadays, giving the inside it’s very classic look. The inner decoration is extravagant but light, renaissance taste mix with byzantine style.
Ballet and opera fans attend the theatre every night and as a tradition and in honour to the works of Michael Glinka every opera season opens with one of his operas.
After you can walk down to the riverside and have a look to the beautiful Kreml, see the red place or visit the cosy church of trinity "St. Basils Cathedral". Or check out Moscow's vibrant nigh-life in the city centre and at the "rich area" Rublevka where new riches, oligarchs and foreigners spend their night in one of the world largest nightclubs. You will see: Moscow moved on since old soviet times!
