Inspired, designed and managed by backpackers, Gap Year backpacker hostel is a brand new design hostel located in a premium location. Newly renovated from a pre-war 2-storey shophouse with impressive floor to ceiling height, our 2800 sq feet hostel opens in October 2012.

Gap Year backpackers hostel strives to offer more than just clean accommodation and gives you the unique backpackers experience in the bustling city of Singapore.

Our Design Philosophy:
To preserve the unique spirit of communal area which cannot be found in other types of accommodation, alot of thoughts and effort were put into the design of the communal area and we had two. Cosy and comfortable, the main communal area will serve bottled beer to fuel your interaction with fellow backpackers. It is a place for you to exchange stories, read a book, look up on your next destination, or just to have a drink.

In land scarce Singapore, our rooms are designed to be space efficient and with individual reading lights and electrical outlets for you to read or surf the web on your bunk, quality me time. Our rooms are furnished and lighted in such a way to facilitate your sleep as we believe that the main purpose of the rooms is to provide you with a good night rest.

We understand that Internet is so important to our guests to either plan for their traveling, catch up with families and friends or read up on the latest happenings. That's why we have high speed fiber optics broadband to cater to your needs and we even have a backup network so that we can always stay connected. There are computers for your complimentary usage and free WIFI for your gadgets.

Terms and Conditions:
Please take note our earliest check-in time is 3pm, and the latest
check-out time is 12noon.

Our reception operates from 830am to 10pm. Please contact us before you book if you want to check in at any other timing. There is a late check-in surcharge of SGD5.00 per person to check-in after 10pm.

All time is GMT+8.

Guest is responsible for producing a valid passport and/or visa of entry into Singapore. We reserve the rights to deny any guest without valid documents.

We do not accommodate Singaporeans and Singapore PRs

We will keep the room/bed for you for 2 hours from the stated time of
arrival. After which it will be released for booking. If there is a
delay in your itinerary, please let us know through phone or email prior to your arrival.

If you cancel your room/bed within 72 hours from the arrival date or no show, you will be charged for your first night of stay and an additional 5% administrative fee will be charged.

Not all our rooms/dorms have windows. If you need window, please check with us first.

Directions

Train Directions from Airport:

Take the MRT train on the East-West Line (Green Line). Alight at Tanah Merah station to proceed to Platform B and go in the direction towards Joo Koon. Alight at Outram MRT Station (EW16) to transfer to the North-East Line (Purple Line). Take the train on the North-East Line towards Punggol and alight at Boon Keng MRT Station (NE9). The journey takes about an hour and costs less than SGD3.00. Trains run daily from the morning around 6am and stop operating around 12 midnight.

Take Exit C (Boon Keng Road) at Boon Keng MRT Station and turn left after coming up the escalator. Walk with the open grass field on your right and the apartments (Block 4,5 and 6) your left. Turn left at the main road (Lavender Street) to see a row of shophouse. Walk another 30m ahead and we are at the 2nd shophouse.

Alternatively (a cheaper option but with more walking), you can alight at Lavender MRT Station (EW11) and take Exit B (Kallang Rd). Turn left after escalator and turn left again after the stairs. Walk straight (keeping V Hotel on your left) towards Tai Pei Buddhist centre and turn left at the cross junction to Lavender Street. Walk along Lavender Street (about 15mins) and you will see Eminent Plaza on your left at the cross junction. Cross over towards 'SpellSpa' which is diagonally right of you. Walk straight (along Lavender Street) on the pathway and we are at the 2nd last shophouse (before the field).

Train Directions from Harbourfront:

Take the train on North-East Line (Purple Line) towards Punggol and alight at Boon Keng MRT Station (NE9).

Take Exit C (Boon Keng Road) at Boon Keng MRT Station and turn left after coming up the escalator. Walk with the open grass field on your right and the apartments (Block 4,5 and 6) your left. Directions from Golden Mile (Malaysia Bus):
Walk 20mins. Walk along Beach Road and turn left on Crawford Street, which becomes Lavender Street. You will see Tai Pei Buddhist Centre on your right and V Hotel on your left after a while at the cross junction, continue to walk along Lavender Street. Shortly, you will see Eminent Plaza on your left at the cross junction and cross over towards 'SpellSpa' which is diagonally right of you. Walk straight on the pathway and we are at the 2nd last shophouse (before the field).

Or from bus stop 01421 opposite Golden Mile, take bus 961 2 stops to Lavender Street (bus stop 07371), then bus 13, 67, 133 or 145 2 stops to Eminent Plaza (bus stop 07351). Keeping Eminent Plaza on your left, walk along Lavender Street for about 5 minutes and you should see us at opposite side of the road near the cross junction of Serangoon Road and Lavender Street.

Taxi Directions:

Inform the cab our address '322 Lavender Street' (near Boon Keng MRT) .

The journey from airport takes about half an hour and costs about SGD25.00 - 30.00 depending on the time of the day.
