Description

The Notso Hostel is located in an enclave of double-porched houses from the 1840's in the downtown historic district of Charleston, SC. We offer dorm rooms and private rooms and have four kitchens and bathrooms that are shared among guests.

Check in is from 5-10pm, EST.

If you are going to arrive after 10PM, you must call to arrange for a late check-in. If you choose not to do this, you will not be able to stay at the hostel on the night of your reservation.

Directions

If you are arriving by bus:
The local public transit system is called Carta. Their phone number is 843 724-7420 and to see all the schedules, go to www.ridecarta.com. The bus fare is $1.75 and exact change is needed. If you have $2, they will take it and not be able to give you any change back. The bus takes about an hour from North Charleston (where the Amtrak, Greyhound and Airport are) to downtown. The bus does not run into the night and generally has limited service, about once an hour. Please plan your trip in advance.

There is a Carta bus stop directly outside of the Greyhound station. Take bus number #11. When you look on the #11 bus map, your stop will be located between the #1 and #2 stops and you will be heading southbound. The bus will take you downtown to the Visitors Center at Meeting and Mary where you can switch to the free trolly (purple line) which will drop you off at Cannon and President Street. From there, walk down President one block to Spring Street, turn right at we are a few houses down, at 156 Spring. You can also get off at Meeting and Spring and walk down six blocks to the hostel. Taxi's should be $12 to downtown. You can call Yellow Cab 843 577 6565 or Safety Cab at 843 722 4066 in advance to pick you up if it doesn't work out with the bus. If you try to get a cab there, they generally charge a flat rate of anywhere between $20 and $30.

If you are arriving by train:
From the Amtrak station, walk down Gaynor Street 1/4 mile to Rivers Avenue and cross the road. Take the #10 to Meeting and Spring Street and then walk down Spring six blocks to 156 Spring. You can also take the #10 bus a few more blocks down to the Visitors Center at Meeting and Mary to switch to the free trolly (purple line) which will drop you off at Cannon and President Street. From there, walk down President one block to Spring Street, turn right at we are a few houses down, at 156 Spring. If you arriving at Amtrak after dark, we do not advise to walk down Gaynor to the bus stop. Taxi's should be $12 to downtown. If you are arriving by plane:
From the Charleston International Airport, take bus #11. This is the first stop on this route and you will be heading southbound. The bus stop is right outside the luggage claim, to the right. It will take you downtown to the Visitor's Center at Meeting and Mary to switch to the free trolly (purple line), which will drop you off at Cannon and President Street. From there, walk down President one block to Spring Street, turn right at we are a few houses down, at 156 Spring. You can also get off at Meeting and Spring and walk down six blocks to the hostel. Taxi's from the airport cost between $20 and $30 to downtown. There is a shuttle outside of luggage claim that leaves every 15 minutes after a plane lands. The cost is $15/person. Walk outside and you'll see the kiosk, ask them to take you to 156 Spring Street .

If you are arriving by car:
From I-26, take the King Street exit (be in the right-hand lane when the interstate ends) turn right on King St. Four blocks down take a right onto Spring St, you'll see a Bi-Lo grocery store right before Spring. The hostel is at 156 Spring Street, drive down the gravel driveway and parking is in the rear.

From 17 South, after crossing over a drawbridge, take the Cannon Street exit (stay straight when the road splits to the left). Take a left at the second light, onto Ashley Avenue, and the first left onto Spring Street. We're a block up on the right at156 Spring.

From 17 North, after crossing the large suspension bridge onto the peninsula, take the King street (downtown) exit. Turn right onto King Street, four blocks down take a right onto Spring Street, you'll see a Bi-Lo grocery store right before Spring. The hostel is at 156 Spring Stre
